TUIfly Nordic AB, formerly known as Britannia Nordic, is a charter airline based in Stockholm, Sweden.[1] The name changed on 1 May 2006. It operates holiday charter flights from airports in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden to fly vacation travelers for the tour operators Star Tour (Denmark & Norway), Fritidsresor (Sweden) and Finnmatkat (Finland). They have destinations in the Canary Islands, Egypt, Greece, the Mediterranean and Thailand.

The airline was originally formed in 1985 to handle the charter operations of Transwede Airways. In 1996, the charter part of the airline was taken over by Swedish tour operator Fritidsresor and renamed Blue Scandinavia. When Britannia Airways took control in 1998 following the acquisition of Fritidsresor by Thomson, the airline was renamed Britannia AB and later rebranded as Britannia Nordic. In 2000 Preussag (later TUI) acquired the Thomson Group.
In November 2005, the airline was rebranded as Thomsonfly and in May 2006 as TUIfly Nordic due to the new marketing strategy of the TUI Group. In the case of TUIfly Nordic, sometimes the logo of 'Fritidsresor' is marked on the fuselage to indicate their role as the companies main tour operator.
The TUIfly Nordic fleet consists of the following aircraft as of December 2011:[2]
Aircraft | In Fleet | Seats | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Boeing 737-800 | 7 | 189 | All fitted with winglets. |
Boeing 757-200 | 1 | 235 | All fitted with winglets. |
Boeing 767-300ER | 3 | 328 | Two equipped with winglets |
Total | 10 | Last updated: 25 December 2011 |
At 1 January 2009, the average age of the TUIfly Nordic fleet is 12.3 years.[3]
During the winter of 2008, TUIfly Nordic leased 2 Boeing 767-300ER aircraft from Thomson Airways for various charter routes. During the winter of 2009, TUIfly Nordic only leased 1 Boeing 767-300ER aircraft from Thomson Airways.
Looking at flightradar24.com in Winter 2011, there seem to be a lot of Scandinavian to Thailand flights, which are being flown by Boeing 767-300ER aircraft from Thomson Airways - these same aircraft seem also to be flying routes to and from the UK in the same weeks, Maybe Thomson Travel are making excellent use of their resources to satisfy a need beyond the home market.
